Community Forum on the current status of the Gorham Manufacturing Site
DATE: Tuesday, May 11th
TIME: 6-7:30pm
LOCATION: Renaissance Church (in the shopping center at Adelaide Avenue and Reservoir Avenue, directly between the closed Stop & Shop and Alvarez High School)
The site of the former Gorham Manufacturing Company on Adelaide Avenue has received a lot of attention over the past few years. Residents have raised concerns about the environmental contamination on the site and its potential impact on the health and well-being of the neighborhood, as well as students and staff at Alvarez High School, which was built on the site in 2007. Residents, elected officials, and the responsible parties who are in charge of cleaning up the site have all played an important role in this process.
Recently a group of residents living near the site–which in addition to Alvarez High School also has a now-vacant Stop & Shop building and gas station– has come together again to work with the responsible parties–the Providence Redevelopment Agency, the Department of Environmental Management, and Textron–to ensure that everything is being done to fully protect residents from contamination still on the site, as well as communicate with residents about progress on the site’s full cleanup and redevelopment.
Please join us for a special community forum on Tuesday, May 11th at from 6-7:30pm. Neighborhood residents will moderate a panel of speakers including–Tom Deller, Director of the Providence Redevelopment Agency, Joe Martella, Site Manager for the Gorham site from the Department of Environmental Management, and Jamieson Schiff and Greg Simpson from Textron.
We hope you can join us!
