8/19 West End Environmental Walking Tour

Wednesday, August 19th from 5-6:30 pm

meet at 1192 Westminster St.

What are the major environmental justice issues in Providence?  Come learn from neighborhood experts and see for yourself!  We’ll take a tour of one Providence neighborhood–the West End, hear the success stories of how communities have mobilized to improve their neighborhood’s environment and see what problems still exist.  Take home new knowledge and skills to create a tour in your own neighborhood!

8/22 Skills Workshop: Want your own home garden?

Saturday, August 22   2-4 pm

at English for Action (122 Manton Ave. Room 710)

Home gardens provide healthy food for your family and can save you money.  But here in Providence, if you want to grow food in your backyard, it’s important to make sure your soil is safe from lead paint contamination, which can be extremely harmful to your health.

Join your neighbors on Saturday, August 22nd from 2-4 pm to learn how to create your own safe and healthy backyard gardens.  Learn new skills including how to test your soil for lead and how to create a garden even if you don’t have a backyard.

A few lucky winners will go home with their own container gardens to get them started!  The workshop includes a walking tour and ends with refreshments.  Feel free to bring your kids.

Brought to you by English for Action, Southside Community Land Trust, the Environmental Justice League of Rhode Island, and the Childhood Lead Action Project
