2013 Program Details:
DATES: 7/2/13 – 8/22/13
The CEC is 8 weeks long: It starts on Tuesday July 2nd and ends on Thursday August 22nd. Graduation is Friday August 23rd.
Weekly Schedule: Tues/Weds/Thurs, 10 am – 5 pm
All students will participate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 10 am to 5 pm. The class schedule is: Revolution 101 on Tuesdays, Environmental Justice on Wednesdays, and Food Justice on Thursdays. Returning Graduates will have a separate track with project-based internships on Wednesdays and leadership development on Thursdays. There will be a fun outdoor trip every Thursday afternoon.
Lunch is included each day, from 1-2pm. Student will be able to participate in cooking and preparation.
COST: Free! (And, students earn $100!)
Each student will receive a $100 stipend at the end of the summer. This stipend could be reduced based on attendance
LOCATION: Brown University (135 Angell St)
All classes take place at the Brown University Center for Environmental Studies’ Urban Environmental Lab (UEL), located at 135 Angell St.
ACTIVITIES: Field Trips, Games, and Lots of FUN
In general, in the mornings before lunch we’ll focus on learning about issues, but in a fun way (lots of interactive activities, role plays, ice breakers, games, etc). After lunch we will be even more active, with field trips, hands-on activities, and more. There will also be guest speakers, additional trips, fitness activities, video production, Do-It-Yourself Science and Technology experiments by Public Lab, and more!
